Blister Fairing Fabrication

August 21, 2005

Hi Group,

Just prior to the recent air test, the hot air control cable on 'AW refused to work with the cowlings in place, (after the engine re-installation) probably due to the re-routing of the Bowden cable. Drilling out the rivets attaching the small blister which had previously allowed a suitable curve in the cable, and removing it, allowed the hot air door to function normally again, with the side cowling re-attached, and the aeroplane was then flown.

I estimated that a further 15% or so volume on the blister would allow the normal functioning of the cable, so proceeded to quickly fabricate another blister by the following means - see pictures.

Hi Group,

I finally made time to rivet the hot-air Bowden cable fairing replacement (blister) onto the Flitzer engine side cowling. It's considerably bigger than the previous, shallow blister, and will allow the free operation of the re-routed cable.

There's no particular finesse involved, hence the pop-rivets. Like everything on the prototype, it's functional first.
